Abstract. Research problem — the fact of the lack of scientific and educational psychological and pedagogical concept of sports coaching determined by objective and subjective reasons and, as a result, the absence of a direct and explicit definition of sports coaching.

The purpose of the study is to develop and substantiate the scientific and educational psychological and pedagogical concept of sports coaching.

Scientific hypothesis of research — the assumption that on the basis of the scientific and educational psychological and pedagogical concept of sports coaching there is a reasonable possibility of building a direct and explicit definition of this psychological and pedagogical phenomenon.

Conclusion: base d on the empirical and theoretical evidence base, the author’s psychological and pedagogical concept of sports coaching and a professional portrait of a sports coach is substantiated by seven basic positions-arguments based on an analysis of the features of a humanistic approach to sports, an expanded professional approach to sports training, ideas of a rationalized specialized business, etc.

The authors emphasize that for all the widely promoted promise of sports coaching, it would be wrong to consider it as a consistent and relatively completed discipline. As evidence, the main reasons for the imperfection and incompleteness, the internal contradiction of the provisions and principles of modern sports coaching are given.

On the basis of the proposed author’s concept, sports coaching can be defined as the primary coaching model that arose on the basis of the synthesis of a humanistic approach to sports, an expanded approach to sports training, a rationalized specialized business, — a model that includes a whole range of professional knowledge and skills, in an equal dialogue mode of individual communication with athletes of employees to assist in independent and voluntary identification and activation of hidden potential in order to increase sports results and achievements.

Keywords: sports coaching; genetic definition; non-humanistic and humanistic approach to sports and sports training; scientific and educational concept
