Abstract. This article is devoted to the study of gender stereotyping of language. The author touches upon the emergence of the concepts of «masculinity» and «femininity», speaks about the problem of gender inequality and gender identity, which, in turn, becomes the cause of the emergence of patterns, especially «masculinity/femininity». An ordinary member of society has his own gender identity literally sewn into the subcortex of the brain, to the point that it is perceived as something genetically determined. Nevertheless, in essence, gender differences are the product of social interactions and, at the same time, the basis and organizing principle of social life. Binary gender identity and the canons of behavior caused by it are ordinary and therefore are not perceived as something significant or deterministic, but when meeting with an androgynous person, whose gender is difficult to uniquely identify based on external data or behavior, causes psychological discomfort and an urgent need for gender identification of the counterpart. The article notes the fact that not only women’s achievements are diminished by society, but often the male becomes invisible, being interpreted as something General, universal. The author presents the definition of gender stereotype, as well as their role in language and literature. Patriarchal culture ascribes to men the sphere of reason (rationality, accuracy), and to women – the sphere of feelings (emotional instability, stupidity), which is expressed in the form of General ideas, as well as stable expressions (real man, female logic, etc.). As a result, stereotypical ideas about the female character (mental limitation, increased emotionality, etc.) find their expression in the speech behavior of women. The author gives examples of Patriarchal orientation of the language.
