Abstract. Drawing from a multifaceted research methodology that combines extensive literature review, empirical data collection, and qualitative analysis, this study provides a comprehensive exploration of the prevailing socio-cultural trends that shape the language education landscape in Italy. The article is devoted to the consideration of the educational system peculiarities in the present-day Italy from the perspective of inclusiveness of regional dialects and national minority languages. The analysis reveals a profound interplay between sociopolitical factors, cultural shifts, and educational policies, highlighting their impact on language learning and teaching practices. The article also describes the most pressing problems encountered by the Italian government in the realm of Italian language use within the context of worldwide globalisation processes. The investigation underscores the increased emphasis on linguistic diversity and the growing recognition of the role of minority languages within the Italian educational framework. In addition, the article reveals the susceptibility of the young generation of Italians to the influence of English and addresses the tendency towards the use of anglicisms in speech. The paper provides a justification for the necessity of adapting the language education programme to the modern socio-cultural context of Italian society. The impact of foreign student flows, globalisation and cultural changes on language education policy in Italy as a member state of the European Union is examined. In conclusion, the study points to the necessity of developing a specific approach for language education that respects the dynamic interrelationships between language, culture and society. The recommendations of this research can serve as a basis for establishing more effective and relevant language education programmes in Italy which promote appreciation of different cultures and ethnicities.
