Abstract. The article is devoted to a special, relatively new type of visual genre — a video blog. The authors analyzed 39 video blogs by British creators, covering 134 videos, presenting the main characteristic features of language and communication within the framework of Internet discourse, as well as providing a definition of a video blog. A video blog is presented as a unique form of communication that combines features of both oral and written discourse typical of the Internet environment. It is characterized by the use of non-verbal means of information transmission and deviations from certain linguistic norms.

The article examines the functions of video blogs, identifying self-presentation, communication, and information receiving as principal functions. The authors propose a genre classification of video content, including entertainment, educational/informational, and training videos, as well as specific genres such as review, vlog, interview and challenges. Particular attention is given to the analysis of the conversational style in the speech of video bloggers, characterized by spontaneity, adaptability and the use of expressive and emotional vocabulary.

The study also demonstrates that video blogging promotes genre hybridization, leading to their evolution and the creation of new formats.

The scientific novelty of the research lies in a linguistic approach to studying the speech features of video blogs and their impact on the development of Internet communication. The focus is on the modern style of Internet communication, particularly video blogging, a field which is currently in constant development that plays a significant role in shaping the style of Internet discourse.
