Manifestation of physical love in Mongolian languages

Abstract. The paper discusses verbs that denote such manifestations of physical love as hugs, kisses and passion. The purpose of the study is to identify, if possible, the motives of the nomination and their connection with the psychophysiological state of a person. The relevance of the work is due to the importance of the problems associated with the perception and comprehension by a linguistic personality of the ways of verbalization of perceptual and emotional experience. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time a connection between the acoustic-articulatory characteristic of the dominant consonant of some of words’ roots and the physiological forms of manifestation of physical love has been established. The material for the study was taken from bilingual, explanatory dictionaries of the Mongolian languages, the Buryat corpus, the Mongolian corpus, as well as written monuments «The Secret History of the Mongols» and «Mukaddimat-al-Adab». The descriptive method, methods of continuous sampling, systematization of selected linguistic units and their contextual analysis were used. This paper examines the procedural names associated with one or another manifestation of physical love, since the substantive and adjectival names of this lexical group in the Mongolian languages are mainly derived from verbs. It is revealed that in the verbs Mong. quričaqu ‘to lust’, oǰuqu ‘to kiss’ consonants [r], [ǰ], due to their acoustic-articulatory characteristics, convey the intensity of arousal, inner strength, energy. The roots of the verbs ünüskü ‘to kiss’, simekü ‘to kiss’ are a sound-mimic imitation of noisy inhalation of air. Research in this way makes it possible to clarify linguistic and psychological ideas about the connection between perception and cognition, to better understand the importance of the system of interpretation of sensory information transmitted through different sensations in the body.
