Abstract. The article describes the functions of extra-linguistic signs in insertion components as a disintegrating syntactic process. Non-linguistic signs are understood as non-verbal means that participate in the structural and semantic organization of the text in general, and the artistic text in particular. Extra-linguistic signs include paragraph indentation, paragraph-selection, font selection (italics, bold, discharge, uppercase letters between lowercase, alternating lowercase and uppercase letters), numbering and markers, punctuation marks – dashes, brackets for highlighting inserts. Insertion as a disintegrating syntactic process has a mandatory font marker, since in written text it is always marked with double brackets, double dashes, and rarely double commas. In modern literary texts created at the turn of the XX–XXI centuries by Russian-speaking Kazakh authors, double parentheses and double dashes are used as a mandatory font marker for insertion as a disintegrating syntactic process. In addition to the mandatory signs, we have identified the following extra-linguistic signs in the insertion component of the disintegration process: paragraph indentation, paragraph-rejection, exclamation mark, question mark, quotation marks, ellipsis, font selection. These extra-linguistic signs are found in the components of the syntactic insertion process both separately and in a complex way. In the course of the research, the following functions of extra-linguistic signs used in the disintegrative syntactic insertion process were identified: transition to a new microteme; explanation of information; allocation of essential information; transmission of the speaker’s attitude to what is being reported; representation of the emotional state of the hero/speaker; indication of the intertext. Extra-linguistic signs can strengthen the separation of the insertion and including components of the insertion as a disintegrating syntactic process on the visual (graphic), structural and semantic levels.

Keywords: insertion as a disintegrating syntactic process; an insertion component that includes a component; extra-linguistic signs; and functions of extra-linguistic signs
