Abstract. The article analyzes the fundamental academic aspects of the sociology of control in the military industry, which is defined by the authors as a subsection of general sociology. The specificity of the subject field of this section of sociological science is considered. The characteristic of some basic stages of development, scientific schools and research areas within the framework of the evolution of military-administrative thought is given. The key tasks of the sociology of military command are formulated. Based on the analysis of the existing range of scientific publications of Russian military sociology and managerial thought, an original authorial set of key functions of the subsection under consideration is formulated. Particular attention is paid to the experience of organizing regional empirical sociological studies conducted as part of the development of an educational strategy and the development of the most optimal techniques for organizing the educational and methodological process. The practical significance of applying the principles of the theory of military sociological control in the system of restructuring the armed forces at the present stage of military reform is revealed. The influence of the process of introducing elements of the sociology of control into the system of sociological knowledge of regional military segments is analyzed. The authors make a general conclusion about the lack of proper attention to the issues addressed in the Russian scientific discourse, which requires additional research efforts. The authors emphasize that carrying out in-depth military reforms is impossible without a proper analysis of the transition from the Soviet system of command and control to a personality-oriented style and multi-level tactical, strategic and organizational planning. Particular attention is paid to the possibilities of using new forms of organizational work with units and personnel of military units and military educational institutions. The hope is expressed for the further dynamic development of the sociology of command and control in the military sphere, with regard to solving the problems of the current military reform.
