Abstract. The present article is devoted to the description of the obsolete and dialectal fishing vocabulary of the Yakut language, found in the «Brief Dictionary of the Yakut language» by the famous methodologist of the Yakut language Gavriil Fedotovich Sivtsev. The dictionary was published in 1979, and its peculiarity is that the dictionary included archaisms, dialects, phraseological expressions, homonyms and occasional words of the time. On the basis of the study the authors have described more than 36 names of fish and fishing terms. The necessity of studying the obsolete and dialectal vocabulary, serving for the nomination of fishing terms, is caused by the fact that this layer of vocabulary passes into passive use. At present, this category of words in the speech of people of average and younger age is used very restrictedly or is not used at all. In this connection, the study of obsolete words and dialectisms, their systematization and analysis acquire especially topical importance. The aim of this article is to identify and study the obsolete and dialectal fishing vocabulary of the Yakut language. In order to achieve the above-mentioned purpose of the research it is necessary to solve the following tasks: to trace the history of studying the vocabulary of fishing in the Yakut language; to identify and systematize obsolete words and dialectisms that serve to nominate fishing terms of the Yakut language; to determine the genetic layers of the studied vocabulary; to study the structure and ways of word formation of the vocabulary of fishing in the Yakut language. In the course of the study the following lexical-semantic groups are distinguished: (1) names of fish; (2) names of fishing tackle; (3) names of fish dishes; (4) fish processing.
