Comparative analysis of Arabisms in the scientific discourse of British and American English

Abstract. This scientific article is a comparative analysis of Arabisms in the scientific discourse of British and American English. The purpose of the study is to identify differences in the use and classification of Arabic borrowings in these varieties of English. In the work, the author uses a lexical-semantic approach to the analysis of Arabisms, based on an analysis of the meanings and use of these words. Arabic loanwords play an important role in scientific discourse in English, but there are differences in the use and classification of these loanwords in British and American languages. The purpose of this study is to comparatively analyze these differences and identify general trends in the use of Arabic borrowings in scientific discourse. To achieve this goal, the author applied a lexical-semantic approach to the analysis of Arabisms. The study used lexico-semantic analyzes of Arabic borrowings in the scientific discourse of British and American English. The author analyzed such characteristics as meanings, usage and semantic connections with other words in this discourse. The results of the study showed that in British English, Arabic loanwords in scientific discourse are more often used to denote concepts and concepts related to science and research. While in American English, Arabic loanwords more often refer to the names of scientific terms. The study allowed us to conclude that Arabic borrowings in the scientific discourse of British and American English have their own characteristics in use and classification.
