Abstract. The article deals with the issue of the influence of values and ideas of such a category of Confucian philosophy as 中庸 «zhong yong» values and ideas influence on the specifics of the Chinese language. The authors focus on examples from literary works of Chinese writers and from media discourse that helped us to study and to analyze the impact of “zhong yong” principle on the thinking and speech behavior of the Chinese people. We found out some ethical and philosophical prescriptions that determine the specifics of Chinese speech and its unique beauty. Among them are the setting for balance and harmony according to «zhong yong» — 尚和 «shanghe» that means a «harmony worship», following the principle of the unity of opposites «求异同等» as well as the principle of «acting in accordance with the moment and space», «因时而中». In addition, the article provides an explanation of the meaning of «zhong yong» in the light of the Chinese scientific tradition. The authors come to the conclusion that the ethical and philosophical norms of «zhong yong» had a profound impact not only on the social behavior and thinking of the Chinese, but also affected various linguistic aspects of the Chinese language, including the external structure of words, their sound composition, semantics, as well as the context and language situation. Moreover, we can observe this influence simultaneously at different levels, for example, on the phonetic and lexical levels, both at the category of words and sentences, and even the entire text as a whole. Thus, the results obtained during the study can be used as scientific and methodological recommendations in the framework of teaching such disciplines as «theory and practice of translation», «Chinese lexicology», etc.
