Abstract. The article analyzes the socio-cultural adaptation of the host party in the conditions of the Republic of Mordovia. The ways of forming public opinion in creating the image of a migrant, the factors causing hostility towards visitors from other regions of Russia and foreign citizens, as well as the impact of the presence of migrants on social stability and ethno-confessional relations are considered.
As part of the study, a sociological survey was conducted of residents aged 18 years and older in 22 municipal districts of the Republic of Mordovia and Saransk, in which 700 respondents took part. The criteria of representativeness were gender, age and place of residence.
It was revealed that the residents of Mordovia generally have a positive attitude towards migrants, considering the relations between the host community and migrants friendly and conflict-free. It is noted that the arrival of migrants to the territory of Mordovia is not perceived as a source of tension, and therefore the majority of respondents do not have hostile relations with them. It is determined that the population may be concerned about the migration of migrants due to competition in the labor market, the threat to social security and the risks of loss of socio-cultural identity, respondents are particularly concerned about the possible deterioration of the criminal situation. It is stated that the presence of visitors of other nationalities in the region does not lead to any contradictions and open conflicts between migrants and local residents. It is concluded that despite the positive attitude towards visitors, about half of the respondents still believe that the entry of migrants to the Republic of Mordovia should be restricted or reduced.
