Abstract. The purpose of the article is to consider the leading trends in the state of paternal practices in Russia in interaction with the dynamics of social, economic, demographic, and cultural processes. The importance of the correspondence of public ideas about the parental behavior of the father with the real social practices of fatherhood, reproduced at the moment in Russia, is emphasized. The authors of the article emphasize the importance of the father from the position of relations with children and contribution to his harmonious personal development. The relevance of the chosen problem is connected with the global change and transformation of many facets and spheres of society, including spiritual values and social norms, which led to an increase in the variability of behavioral models and practices. The indicated modification also concerns the area of family relationships, especially noticeably changing the content, content, tasks and consistency of the parental role of a man. The theoretical and methodological basis of the article consists of: the provisions of the concept of «responsible fatherhood»; the theory of family relations; concepts that reveal the features of family education and folk ethnopedagogy; systemic, gender and socio-cultural approaches that allowed assessing the process of transformation of paternity strategies in the Russian Federation at the present stage, taking into account traditional patriarchal and alternative forms of family and marriage unions.
