Abstract. The article is devoted to the description of euphemisms of the Buryat language in the sphere of «Birth of a person». The ability of euphemisms to use a new way of expression instead of the original direct nomination is revealed on the semantically associated concept of pregnancy, which is considered as one of the most important segments of this thematic area. It is emphasized that the extralinguistic nature of any euphemism is closely related to taboo, with the desire to hide something, soften a negative connotation, etc. The basis of Buryat euphemisms in the sphere of «pregnancy of a woman», as well as in other languages, are superstitions, prejudices, etiquette. Meanwhile, the authors note that the basis for the formation of Buryat euphemisms in this sphere is not just the desire to hide the fact of pregnancy and veil the physiological changes of a woman of this period. In this thematic group, the main part of euphemisms is permeated with a protective or preserving function, they show the desire to protect the life of the mother and child. All euphemisms are delicate and friendly. It is noted that the semantics of Buryat euphemisms is associated with the veneration and respect of women carrying a child in their womb. All these factors influence the general background of the euphemistic space of this group: it is characterized by the absence of euphemisms with a negative connotation. puts into expressions those life values that characterize his fundamental experience, knowledge, culture, higher vectors or guidelines for behavior and events about the world. They are conditioned by religion, beliefs, social institutions, and vital needs. Euphemisms should be considered not only as a phenomenon of language, but also as a phenomenon of culture. The study of euphemisms allows one to join the world of another culture, to see this world through the prism of the national and cultural characteristics of its people: the realities of its past and present, as well as its spiritual and moral values.
