Abstract. At the present stage, the dominant aspects of the transformation of gospel stories and images, the peculiarities of their functioning in the literary context, are becoming the subject of numerous studies. The problem of using gospel stories in fiction is gaining relevance in new socio-cultural conditions. The multifaceted versatility of the gospel plot-figurative material becomes the basis for the emergence of new literary versions of the New Testament events, which makes it possible to rethink the significance of the biblical heritage every time. The polysemy semantics of traditional structures serves as a material for the study of many modern literary scholars, philosophers and cultural scientists.

The purpose of the research is to analyze the use of New Testament plots in the novel by F.M. Dostoevsky’s «The Brothers Karamazov».

The article examines the polysemy of traditional plots, images and motives, presents the process of creative literary processing into various structural and semantic connections in the novel by F.M. Dostoevsky’s «The Brothers Karamazov». It has been established that an appeal to biblical themes, the interweaving of gospel motives and plots into a work are the most important meaning-forming of this work.

On specific examples, the imagery of the novel is analyzed in the context of gospel analogies, the presence of directly gospel images and texts in the work is established. It was established that in the texts of F.M. Dostoevsky, seemingly incongruous things are present: criminal stories with gospel legends, an adventurous plot with a sermon, melodrama and naturalism, philosophical reflections and pastoral teachings. Behind all this, the real spiritual depth of a person appears, a real attitude to God, real ideas that the heroes live with.

Keywords: gospel stories; analogies; artistic and stylistic inclusions; polysemy of images; anthroponyms
