The spread of Chinese language and culture in Russia – as a result of globalization

Abstract. The multicultural specificity of the globalization process actualizes the issues of developing a national culture, shaping its positive image and integrating it into the world cultural process. The article reflects the historically determined disagreement in the conceptual definition of culture that has developed in the Russian and Chinese sciences. The role of “soft power” in China’s policy is evaluated, serving as an effective mechanism for strengthening the country’s spheres of influence and promoting national interests on the world stage, the central element of which is the spread of language as the most important component of Chinese culture. The degree of popularity of the language beyond the borders of the state demonstrates the political authority and political leadership of the host state, personifying its symbolic presence. The increased economic potential of China, the centuries-old history of Chinese-Russian relations and the active policy of the People’s Republic of China aimed at spreading the national language have led to Russia’s heightened interest in Chinese culture and language. In this connection, the author considers the historical retrospective and the evolution of Russian-Chinese cultural communication, during which the Chinese language and culture were disseminated in Russia. It also focuses on the modern foundations of the cultural collaboration of Russia and China: the holding of the Year of Russia in China and the Year of China in Russia; Year of Russian tourism in China; Years of Russian-Chinese student exchanges; Forum dedicated to the Chinese-Russian cooperation in the field of cultural life and cultural entrepreneurship of young people; cultural fair, between Heihe and Blagoveshchensk, in the course were implemented about 10 thousand pieces of art. The organization of the Confucius Institute in 2008 was designated as the central event that had a stimulating effect on the spread of Chinese language and culture in Russia, serving today as the top priority tool for presenting and integrating Chinese traditional culture and values into the globalization process of the world. and strengthen national identity.
