Abstract. This article is devoted to the study of the literary process in the 1920s, which underwent large-scale changes due to the ideological forming of writers. Literature became an expression of public sentiment, and historical time became the starting point of the creative process. The article presents a theoretical overview of studies in which the literary process is considered in inextricable connection with the social environment of the era. It is repeatedly emphasized that a literary work reflects a certain cultural atmosphere, since it is permeated with the consciousness of the time and social environment to which the author and recipient belong. The focus is on the concept of «social creativity of the masses», introduced by E.A. Dobrenko, as well as the concept of «massification» used by D.S. Moskovskaya, N.Yu. Bakshaeva and O.V. Romanova. By both concepts, researchers mean the aesthetic experience of attracting a large number of poorly educated writers from among workers and peasants into the literary process and the creation of a mass consumer of proletarian literary products. The article emphasizes the fact that the leading role belongs to the working class, which in the 1920s was the bearer of advanced ideas and genuine cultural goals. Referring to the work of V. Novinsky, the article states that in 1921 and 1923 in Saratov the most numerous social groups were employees and workers. Thus, the numerical and socio-professional composition of participants in the literary process of the 1920s most importantly characterizes the literary association of the named era. Ignoring this fact, it is impossible to comprehensively understand the features of literary life. The article offers an overview of the literary works of Saratov proletarian writers, published in the collection of the Saratov Proletkult «Swings», whose attention is aimed at depicting the image of the worker, his life and working conditions.
