Abstract. Introduction. Nominal (substantial) phrases are a common type of phrase in the Khanty language. In such phrases, the dominant word is a noun, an adjective, an adverb, the dependent component is expressed by a noun, an adjective, a pronoun, a numeral, a participle or an adverb. In this work, we tried to identify the paradigm of grammatical forms of the main and dependent components, to cover all possible variants of the combination of words in a phrase and to present their models, to determine the morphological affiliation of the components and the type of connection between them. The purpose of the work is to identify and systematize the models of nominal phrases in the Khanty language.

Materials and methods: texts in the Khanty language that contain different types of phrases. The main research methods include descriptive and structural analysis, as well as semantic and component analysis of the material.

Research results. The results of the analysis conducted to clarify the structural models of nominal phrases show that substantive phrases are formed according to the following structural schemes: (1) N ← N (N + Nposs), (2) PRON + Nposs, (3) Adj ← N, (4) Pron ← N, (5) Num ← N, (6) Part ← N, (7) Adv ← N, the core component is expressed by a noun, and the dependent component is expressed by a noun (with or without a post-position), an adjective, a pronoun, a numeral, a participle, or an adverb. In phrases with the main word being a noun in the personal-possessive form, the dependent components are a noun and a personal pronoun. Adjective syntactic constructions are formed according to four main models: (1) N ← Adj, (2) Adv ← Adj, where the main word is an adjective, and the dependent word is a noun in various cases or an adverb. The structural schemes of adverbial phrases are: (1) N ← Adv, (2) Adv ← Adv — the core word is expressed by an adverb, a category of state word, the subordinate component — by an adverb, a noun, a pronoun in the dative case. The scientific novelty of the study consists in identifying and classifying the models of nominal phrases in the Khanty language.

Conclusion. The conducted research allowed us to clarify the models of nominal phrases, establish the features of expressing the main and dependent components, and identify the semantic relations and grammatical connections in phrases.
