The heritage of Leo Tolstoy in the perception of the Iranian translators

Abstract. Russian literature XӀX — early XX century. is of particular importance in Persian literature. The article examines the work of L.N. Tolstoy in the perception of Iranian translators from the 19th century to the present, analyzes the phenomenon of interest in the works of the writer by Iranian translators, and also describes and compares the ways of translating these works into Persian, including those of Mohammad Ali Islami Nodushan, Abdolali Dastageib, Sorous Habibi, Said Nafisi, Karim Keshavarz and others.

The relevance of the study is not only the consideration of the spread of Russian literature, in particular, the work of Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy in Iran, but also its influence on Persian literature.

The purpose of the study is to present a set of points of view of Iranian critics, writers and translators on the work of Leo Tolstoy.

The tasks are a consistent description, analysis and identification of common trends and differences in the points of view of Iranian translators on the work of the great Russian writer.

Research methods — description, comparison and analysis.

The theoretical significance of the study is the expansion of ideas about the influence of Leo Tolstoy’s work on Iranian literary processes in the historical literary perspective.

The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of using the results obtained in literature lessons in schools and universities of both Iran and Russia.

The theoretical basis of the study is the works devoted to the study of Russian classics in Iran.

The article was written on the basis of the dissertation research «Literary sources of the «Azbuka» by L.N. Tolstoy», defended on January 21, 2022 at Moscow State Pedagogical University.
