Abstract. The article is dedicated to the exploration of the concept of boredom in Russian language consciousness. The relevance of the work is determined by the fact, that the concepts of negative emotions occupy an unique place in the Russian language picture of the world, but they remain incomprehensible and inaccessible to most foreign students. Based on the idea of the unity of the speech-thinking act, in which the linguistic and logical content are presented together, we study the figurative notions and the semantic constants of the concept of boredom. Based on the study of materials in the national corpus of the Russian language, all epithets that are used in combination with the word boredom are identified, and typical, real and figurative signs of the concept of boredom are classified. It is established that these signs are manifested either by itself, or from outside, or by the author’s arbitrariness. And denotates, which are manifested by semantic constants prove the essence of the concept of boredom. Unlike the Russian representation, the essence of the Chinese concept of boredom is understood by the combination of hieroglyphs. It is proved that the word boredom is included in those lexical units, whose selection of absolutely accurate matches in Chinese language is impossible.

Keywords: the concept of boredom; figurative notion; epithets; denotation; non-equivalence
