Abstract. The analysis of the concepts «economic security» and «economic safety» and the choice of the most suitable equivalent of the term in English-speaking sources when we speak about ensuring national security in the economic sphere lies in the basis of this article. Working at the faculty that prepares specialists in the sphere of economic security and anti-corruption, the authors faced the ambiguity of the term. In English, we can meet two terms: «security» and «safety» defining national stability and comfortable living conditions for the people, and both phrases: «economic safety», and «economic security» are used. In the article, the authors analyze the terms «economic safety» and «economic security» in various contexts, define the main characteristics of these terms and make the conclusion which of the terms should be used for reflection of counteraction to different types of crimes in the economic sphere. As a result of the research, it was established that in English-speaking sources the term «economic security» is more often used for designation of the concept, and this term is used both in American, and in the British editions to reflect counteraction to the phenomena aggravating welfare of the population, undermining stability of the companies, prosperity of the society and stability of the economy in general – economic crimes. The term «economic safety» in similar meaning is often used by the authors for whom English is not a native language. Carriers of language use this term in a different meaning: stability of the economic system.
