Abstract. V.F. Rayevsky is better known as the first Decembrist, although he wrote many poems. His poetic works during the life of the author were practically not published, because most of his works are written in prison or in exile. Linguistic and stylistic characteristics of his poems have not been studied or described.

V.F. Raevsky, first of all, is a political lyricist, his poetry is characterized by a revolutionary character, a decisive affirmation of civic duty as the main content of life and creativity. Love for the Motherland, for its glorious past was reflected in many other poems of the poet («Songs of soldiers before the battle», «Message to G. Batenkov», «Message to P.G. Priklonsky» etc.), one way or another related to the events of the Patriotic war of 1812.

The article considers the peculiarities of word usage and specific stylistic techniques typical of V.F. Raevsky’s poems, which devoted the theme of the Patriotic war of 1812. One could reveal lexical, morphologic and syntax language features of the author’s language as well as emotional and expressive means used by him. The article draws attention to the means of expressiveness such as metaphor, periphrases, period and comparison in disclosing the author’s intent. The connection of the main motives of his Patriotic works with the lexical expression is shown.
