Abstract. The subject of the research in this article is the analysis of the peculiarities of church architecture in Russia. Russian churches, considering the origins of the cultural identity of Russia, it is impossible not to note the importance of the Orthodox faith, and a special place is occupied by the aesthetics of Russian churches, which is an important component of Russian culture. The author shows that church architecture is one of the important components that make up Russian culture, its identity and identity. There are Orthodox churches in many Russian cities. It is the church that gives us the opportunity to understand that it is a special space, contrasting with the surrounding buildings. In every Russian city there is an Orthodox church, which sometimes appears as one of the central architectural works of the urban landscape. The author aims to analyze and identify the features of church architecture in Russia. The author pays a special role in the study to the importance of light in the spatial arrangement of churches, their internal architecture, highlighting its influence on the overall structure of temples. The author’s special contribution to the study is that the features of Russian church architecture and its aesthetic significance for culture as a whole were studied and presented. The author concludes that Orthodox architecture is an important cultural feature of Russian identity. Based on the architectural style of Byzantium, later Orthodox architecture in Russia was able to become a separate direction, with its own specific cultural and distinctive features and aesthetic qualities. And the main thing is that the author was able to assume that the aesthetics of the Russian Church allows us to form not only the image of the Orthodox Church, but also the image of Russian culture expressed in the architecture of church buildings.
