Abstract. Globalization, the market economy, competition and the influence of Western individualism cultivate the profitability of narcissism in modern society. The diametrically opposite form of social interaction is the solidarity of society as a normative model of the structure of society. The categories of «loneliness», «communication» and «social interaction» are used to analyze the phenomenon of narcissism. Citing extensive material, the prevalence of this phenomenon in various categories of the population is shown, its conditionality by gender, age, personal and existential characteristics is justified, and the phenomenon of loneliness is also considered in the context of the category of social interaction.

The authors, combining sociological, philosophical and psychological discourse, citing extensive sociological material and using the methodology of a socio-philosophical approach to socio-psychological phenomena, come to the conclusion: the phenomenon of narcissism as a socio-psychological phenomenon of destructive, not productive social orientation is the root cause of social disorientation and the only destructive way to solve it — the phenomenon of loneliness. At the same time, solidarity can be considered a constructive way out of this situation as an expression of an existential, deep connection of a person with the world as a whole, with society and its individual representatives. Choosing the solidarity of society as opposed to a narcissistic lifestyle cannot be an effective model of existence without the influence of religion and culture, which supply a person with both stable psychological modes and models of existence in culture and society.
