Abstract. The article considers military personnel and their family members as an object of social support. The relevance of this area of social policy and social work is justified by analyzing the main groups of problems inherent in military personnel and their families in the current socio-political and economic situation.

The author uses an integrated approach, including theoretical analysis of sources and empirical research. On the basis of documentary sources, the normative and legal provision of social support for military personnel and their family members has been studied. Military personnel and their family members are guaranteed the right to social services, certain social benefits from the State, assistance in rehabilitation and social adaptation upon completion of military service.

The article provides an analysis of the experience of social support for military personnel and their family members in the regions of Russia. A wide range of social services is provided at the regional level in this category. After the start of the Special Military Operation, assistance to the military and their families began to be targeted, aimed at creating as comfortable living conditions as possible not only for them, but also for their family members.

The data of the author’s sociological research conducted to study current problems and measures of social support for military personnel and their family members in Saransk (Republic of Mordovia), as well as the development of proposals for the development of a social support system for this category of recipients of social services in the region, are also presented. It is revealed that respondents note the demand for socio-economic services of social protection institutions. A high percentage of those who indicated social and psychological assistance was also noted. These circumstances cause certain psychological changes in the serviceman, who requires both social support and the work of a psychologist.
