Abstract. Social networks have become an integral part of the life of modern youth, deeply integrated into their daily practices, communication and identity formation. They are a powerful tool that has both positive and negative effects on the development, behavior, and worldview of young people. This dual effect makes social networks an important object of study for sociologists. Social media is both a tool and a challenge. They provide unprecedented opportunities for young people to learn, communicate and self-actualize, but also create new risks that can negatively affect their development. To prove this effect, an observation method was carried out using the Neurobarometer software and hardware complex, which at the neurophysiological level proves the influence of social networks on students of regional universities. Social media has become a powerful factor shaping the lives of today’s youth. Their impact cannot be assessed unambiguously: they open up new horizons, but they also create serious challenges. The task of society, educational institutions and young people themselves is to learn how to use the potential of social networks constructively, minimizing their negative consequences. This requires both individual awareness and systemic measures at the level of education, regulation and support.
