Abstract. This article is devoted to the study of the problem of travel narrative in I.S. Turgenev’s cycle of stories «A Hunter’s Sketches». The study of the travel narrative in «A Hunter’s Sketches», especially in the context of its connection with the description of nature, social environment and psychology of the characters, becomes relevant for understanding the dynamics of the Russian literary tradition. The aim of the study is to identify the role and function of the travel narrative in this work. Scientific novelty is conditioned by the fact that the article is the first to analyze the functioning of elements of travel in «Notes of the Hunter», to consider he use of linear temporal links to structure the plot and demonstrate nonlinear spatial characteristics. The article pays special attention to the elements of travel, which are present in «A Hunter’s Sketches», as well as to the structural functions of the travel narrative in this literary work. Historical and cultural analysis, structural analysis and comparative analysis are used for a comprehensive study. The results obtained showed that the author concludes that the journey fulfills an important role in this cycle of stories, providing a wide geographical space and creating a natural basis for the development of the plot. The use of the travel narrative in «A Hunter’s Sketches» serves to organize the trials of the hunter into a clear and visual itinerary. The travel narrative goes beyond simply depicting the protagonist’s journey, it also serves as a tool to gather the stories and experiences of other characters. It adds depth and complexity to the narrative, making each hunter’s travel a key element of the story’s structure. In addition, «A Hunter’s Sketches» has both temporal and spatial properties. The cycle of stories not only relies on linear temporal relations to structure the plot, but also demonstrates non-linear spatial characteristics, which enriches the plot development and gives the work additional depth.
