Abstract. The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the concept of «Nepotism» in Russian and English, taking into account historical, economic, social, psychological and linguistic cultural aspects. The study shows that this phenomenon is a complex social issue that attracts interest in various fields, especially in economics and law. Special attention is paid to the linguistic and cultural aspect, since the language reflects historical and social realities, as well as the mentality and values of native speakers. The authors of the article examine definitions of nepotism from various dictionaries, which allows identifying common and distinctive features of the perception of this phenomenon in these cultures. The analysis of the English corpus revealed that depending on the author’s pragmatic intentions nepotism can be considered as a positive phenomenon. In the Russian context, nepotism is associated with the institution of spiritual kinship and traditions of family ties, while in English nepotism is more often perceived as a form of corruption and abuse of power. The analysis of idiomatic expressions of Russian and English linguocultures shows that the phenomenon is generally evaluated negatively and is associated with favoritism and injustice. The results of the study can contribute to a deeper understanding of cross-cultural differences and similarities in the perception of socially significant concepts. This article may be useful to specialists in the field of lexicology, stylistics, translation studies and linguoculturology.
