Abstract. The article is dedicated to the impressionistic period and the refraction of the Art Nouveau style in the works of the Kazakh artists A. Cherkassky and S. Mambeev.

Creativity of Kazakh artists of the middle of the last century has risen to a high artistic level and by right has acquired special significance in world culture of the 20th century. In this regard, a detailed and careful analysis requires the involvement of the painters of Kazakhstan to the artistic traditions of the Russian school, as contemporary Kazakh art, while continuing its development on the basis of the richest national heritage, still preserves the continuity of the traditions of the Russian painting school. Moreover, the analysis of the development of national art in the interaction of artistic traditions of Kazakhstan and the Russian school of painting is of particular importance in the context of globalization.

Analyzing the creative path and key works of artists, the authors reveal the stylistics of the works of selected artists and the importance of the experience of Russian impressionism and modernity for the establishment of the national school of painting of Kazakhstan.

Impressionist artists, as you know, sought to fix fleeting, momentary impressions, to the most natural and unbiased imprint of reality in its movement and changeability. However, this direction in the USSR could not cause any other, but negative, response from the side of controlling bodies, for the very reason that Impressionism itself was more characteristic of the culture of European countries.
