Abstract. The study conceptualizes fiction reality phenomenon within the context of socio-cultural society. The present study is part of the author’s undergraduate thesis devoted to the problem of fiction reality in the context of an emerging virtual culture. In contradiction with the widely held conviction that the only function of fiction is entertainment far beyond from the empirical authenticity, a statement that fiction has a substantive purpose than meets the eye have been put forward. Global Internet’s rapid growth resulted in a genesis of entirely new culture type – the virtual one. It has served as a catalyst in the interpersonal and mass communication convergence process through the fiction category. Synthetic space not only provides a person with new self-presentation ways contributing to the formation of a new cultural identity, but it can also be used as a tool for reading the issues of the present. Through the mechanisms of abstraction, interactive participation and compression of individual objects and phenomena from the real world fantastic plots provide simulation models or real social world imitations. The study revealed that fiction reality is capable to capture the entire depth and dimension of real social interactions experience through modern information and communication technologies as well as fantastic stories. This simulation facilitates communication and understanding of various social information types and makes it more convincing by offering a special form of learning – through fascinating stories. It had become apparent that participation in such a simulative situation created by fiction reality can help to understand other people’s characters, contribute to the expansion of the socio-cultural identity and in addition to enhance empathy.
