Functioning of German deverbatives under the conditions of taxis variation

Abstract. The purpose of this article is to consider the issue of the functioning of German deverbatives in the conditions of taxis variance.

The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that deverbative nouns are considered as a means of actualizing taxis meanings and implementing the phenomenon of taxis variance or polymorphism in statements with prepositional constructions.

To achieve this goal, inductive, hypothetical-deductive and descriptive methods were used, as well as the method of classification and the method of generalization and interpretation of linguistic facts.

This article describes the taxis functions of German deverbatives, implemented by them in utterances with temporal and other adverbial prepositions. They perform the functions of taxis actualizers, participating in the implementation of primary-taxis and secondary-taxis categorial values of simultaneity and non-simultaneity.

Taxis polymorphy is associated with the heterogeneous semantics of prepositions (temporal, modal, instrumental, medial, conditional, final, etc.), including some polysemic prepositions of the German language. The latter, due to their ambiguity, can mark both primary-taxis and secondary-taxis categorial meanings of simultaneity.

Taxis polymorphy can be determined by certain elements of one or another taxis environment — phase-taxis, iterative-taxis or durative-taxis. When functioning in a taxis environment, constituted by phase verbs and phase adverbials, deverbatives of various lexical and derivational semantics actualize conjugate phase-taxis meanings (aggressive-phase-taxis, egressive-phase-taxis, etc.). When used with iterative and durative adverbials and attributes, which are constituents of the iterative-taxis and durative-taxis environment, the considered German deverbatives perform the function of actualizers of syncretic iterative-taxis and durative-taxis categorical meanings of simultaneity, precedence and succession. In the case of a distributive plurality of subject and object actants of verbal actions, they realize distributive-taxis categorial meanings.
