Abstract. This article focuses on the image of the narrator, a text category. It primarily examines the relationship between the narrator and the author in fiction, as well as the typology of narrative texts based on the relationship between these images. Fiction is studied from a stylistic perspective, allowing us to understand the overall organization of this type of text. The study also addresses the issues raised by V.V. Odintsov’s existing classification of compositional text types based on the «author/narrator» relationship, which does not encompass all possible variations of such relationships. The author attempts to clarify the underlying principle underlying the classification and update the formulations of the identified compositional types, taking into account the choice of perspective (objectified or subjectified), which is an important position in a fictional text and generally determines the composition of such a text. This determines the relevance of the study and its theoretical significance, as the categories under consideration have not yet been fully explored. From a practical perspective, the results of this study are useful for stylistic analysis of literary texts. It will be equally useful for aspiring writers, as it addresses issues related to the author’s textual organization. The article contains essential illustrative material that supports the author’s argument and provides examples of how the narrator is constructed in classic works of fiction.
