Abstract. In this article, on the basis of a comparative analysis, the traditions of the Yuletide story in the work of K.G. Paustovsky «An Old Man in a shabby overcoat» are considered. In order to identify the traditions of the Yuletide story, the work was carried out, consisting of several stages: the difference between the genre of the Yuletide story and the genre of the Christmas story was determined. The analysis of the theoretical material allowed us to establish that the story of K.G. Paustovsky can be attributed precisely to the genre of the Yuletide story: the leading ideological component of the Yuletide story is the earthly transformation, the change in the lives of the characters. In the study, we compared the image of Lenin, created in works of art, written previously analyzed text, image, disclosed in К.G. Paustovsky and his other literary texts: the secular image transformed in the sacred, endowed with religious meaning. The paper compares the traditional model of the Yuletide story with the genre model of the story «An old Man in a shabby overcoat». In the course of the study were identified components of the model affected by the transformation: action time (no exact mention of time, added the summer), the occurrence of a miracle (a miracle is connected not so much with salvation, but with the acquisition of hope, of confidence in the future), proper names (meaningful names are not only the protagonists, but also minor characters). A comparative analysis of the actual material allows us to conclude that the transformation was not affected by such a component of the Yuletide story genre as portraits (icons-portraits) – they appear in prose and poetic texts created before the story by K.G. Paustovsky, and in the analyzed text.
Keywords: traditions of the Yuletide story; the sacralisation of the image of Lenin; proper names; the concept of «miracle»; the motive of the transfiguration; portraits; the type of narration
