Abstract. The article describes the data of two experiments in order to confirm or refute the fact of synonymous relationship between Russian stable comparisons from the thematic group «The texture of objects and surfaces» for their subsequent representation in the educational dictionary of Russian stable comparisons for foreign students. Selected by the continuous sampling method the stable comparisons that describe the texture of objects and surfaces are divided into two thematic groups, within which four subgroups are distinguished. Based on the materials from these groups, 8 synonymous series of stable comparisons were compiled. In each serie one dominant unit was choosed. In order to confirm the hypothesis about the synonymy of the units, a survey of 71 one respondent was conducted. The respondents were asked to choose from the list those phraseological units that could replace the dominant stable comparison in the context. The statistical data of the experiment is accompanied by their analysis. To clarify some of the controversial results of the experiment, a second survey was conducted, during which respondents had to choose units that could not replace the highlighted stable comparison in the context. Respondents’ answers confirmed the results of the first experiment. Based on the data obtained, it can be argued that the elements of experimentally verified synonymic series should be marked in the educational dictionary as synonyms. Unconfirmed by the experiment units can also be found at the end of a vocabulary entry for passive recognition by students. This article is part of the thesis devoted to the study of Russian stable comparisons.

Keywords: stable comparison; basis of comparison; standard of comparison; synonymy; paradigmatic connections
