Abstract. The scientific problem of the study is the lack of representation of the sociological perspective of the analysis of corruption as an entrenched social institution with its own norms, roles and sanctions.

The relevance of the topic of sociological research is due to the possibility and ability of pilot and descriptive sociological research to identify social facts (hidden social patterns) of the existence of corruption in the field of Russian entrepreneurship; establish causal relationships of regular reproduction and wide social replication of corruption relations.

The purpose of the study is a comprehensive sociological analysis of corruption as an institutional barrier to the development of entrepreneurship in Russia and the development of proposals for improving the mechanisms of anti-corruption protection of business.

Research methods:

  • Questionnaire survey of small and medium-sized enterprises (N = 156). Target sampling, snowball formation through professional communities in instant messengers and social networks. Geography: mainly the Central Federal District, as well as respondents from the Republic of Tatarstan and the Sverdlovsk Region.
  • A series of focused expert interviews with lawyers specializing in economic and official crimes, representatives of regional branches of Delovaya Rossiya and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as a former employee of the control and supervisory body.
  • The main conclusion: the hypothesis of the study that corruption in Russian entrepreneurship is a systemic institutional barrier, reproduced at the level of everyday practices and requiring a comprehensive sociological analysis, has been confirmed. Further scientific research in this area should focus on the development of methods for quantifying latent corruption and monitoring the effectiveness of the implementation of digital management tools.

Keywords: Russian entrepreneurship; corruption; latent corruption assessment; social institution; digital management tools
