Abstract. The article attempts to examine changes in ritual practices, typical for the Soviet period of society in comparison with modern trends in the field of such forms of culture as holidays and related rituals. This analysis is based on the theory of monostylistic and polystylistic culture developed by L.G. Ionin, which allowed us to analyze the interdependence of the basic fundamental values of Russian culture of the Soviet period with their implementation in relation to public holidays. The author shows how the ritual actions performed during the holidays contributed to the formation of identity as part of a cultural whole. It is emphasized that the transition to a polystylistic type of culture has changed the attitude to the perception of holidays and to the accompanying ritual practices.
