Abstract. The article is devoted to the consideration of the specifics of the development of art journalism in the communicative space of modern mass media, the factors that determine the interest in this area of journalism are determined. One of the most important social functions of art journalism is substantiated – the creation of the foundations of a constructive dialogue, first of all, to maintain socio-cultural balance. The polygenre nature of art journalism is determined both by the variety of events in cultural life and by the characteristics of different spheres of culture and types of art. Within the framework of the study of art journalism, correlations of genres and news stories (events) are also found, which, in turn, determines specific discursive practices in this type of communication, the dominant means of which are proper names, citation, ekphrasis. Discursive practices of art journalism are designed to maintain and develop high culture, making it accessible to a wide audience, which, ultimately, allows us to resist the process of cultural marginalization and the general attitude of the mass media to entertainment.
