The role of precedent phenomena in creating the concept of precedent personality (on the example of the concept “Marie-Antoinette”)

Abstract. The article was written within the framework of linguoculturology. The study is based on materials from Russian and French dictionaries of quotes and encyclopedias, as well as historical studies and memoirs. The purpose of this article is to identify among the statements and sayings that reflect the biography of the French Queen Marie Antoinette quotes that have become national and universal precedent phenomena, as well as to identify the interconnection of precedent phenomena and their role in the formation of the concept of precedent personality. There are four types of precedent phenomena: precedent situations, texts, statements and names. The article explores three layers of the concept: types of precedent phenomena: social, national and universal. The author singles out a canonical precedent situation, that is, an authentic precedent situation that has not undergone any transformations or substitutions (often unconscious) in the mind of the speaker, and an apocryphal precedent situation, that is, that has undergone any transformations or substitutions. The study examined 33 case phenomena, of which 24 % were case names, 9 % were case texts, and 67 % were case statements. Of the analyzed precedent phenomena, 45 % are social, 36 % are national, and only 18 % are universal. The analysis revealed 18 % of apocryphal situations. The study did not reveal clear trends in the ratio of the types of precedent names, texts and statements, on the one hand, and the situations they symbolize. The author comes to the conclusion that the national and universal precedent phenomena, on the basis of which the concept of «Marie-Antoinette» was formed, characterize her not from the best side, but are sometimes based on apocryphal situations. The national layer of the concept «Marie-Antoinette», judging by the requests on the Internet, varies depending on the linguistic culture. So, in the French-speaking network, it is more likely associated with fashion, which is understandable, given the role of fashion in French-speaking culture, in the English one is associated with luxury and extravagance, and in the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet, the name Marie Antoinette is strongly associated with cakes, which is also understandable if take into account Russian-speaking social realities.
