Abstract. The study of obsolete lexical units is of great interest to researchers. The article examines the lexical and word-formation features of the archaisms of the Mansi language. The problem of learning is primarily related to the preservation and popularization of the native language, which today is spoken by less than one thousand people. We have considered 26 archaisms of the Mansi language using the example of the text of the ancient heroic song «Vorya-Otyrt Turni erge» («The heroic song of the Heroes from the Vorya River»). The study allows us to note that the Mansi language has a rich passive vocabulary, which contains terms characterizing its material and spiritual culture. A significant number of archaisms, many of which are difficult to comprehend or not at all, make it possible to assume, as he notes: that in them we are dealing with relics of the former state of the Mansi language, regardless of whether they penetrated into antiquity from other languages or arose independently in the ancient Mansi environment.

The prospects for further study of the outdated vocabulary of the Mansi language are connected with the study of many other genres of oral poetic creativity, which the people are so rich in. This will make it possible to trace the fate of obsolete words in the process of historical development and, based on the current modern capabilities, implement the results in the development of dictionaries, teaching aids, and digital projects.
