Abstract. The article presents an analysis of linguistic means denoting altered states of human consciousness according to Russian youth jargon. The review of theoretical works revealing the concept under study is given, the relevance of the topic is indicated, which consists in the fact that at the moment there are no works on the coverage of nominative means of altered states of consciousness on the material of substandard vocabulary. The research is based on the material of lexicographic sources and scientific papers reflecting the problems of the work. In order to identify the linguistic specificity of slang names of altered states of consciousness, the authors systematize the slang means of their nominations, consider thematic and lexico-semantic groups, including lexical and phraseological units that name altered states of consciousness. With the help of statistical analysis, it was found that the system of nominations in these thematic groups forms the nuclear, central and peripheral zones. The characteristic features of the internal form of slang units are highlighted and described, some attention is paid to the features that served as the basis for verbal nominations. The classification of paradigms of images realized in slang names of altered states of consciousness is given; the most and least numerous paradigms are listed. As a result of the review of the linguistic material, typical methods of verbal action have been established, revealing the specifics of slang designations of altered states of consciousness, indicating meanings, including connotative ones, characteristic of a number of morphemes of the studied slang units. Attention is drawn to the means of the semantic-grammatical category of impersonality as a way of expressing altered states of consciousness in youth jargon. The authors also cite the most popular metaphors in the thematic field under consideration. In conclusion, the results of the work done are summarized, prospects for further research of altered states of consciousness are outlined.
