Abstract. The article is devoted to the peculiarities of realization of causative situations in active analytical constructions with the verb force in English. The category of causation is a promising direction in the study of grammar and semantics of any language. Despite the existence of a number of studies devoted to analytic causative in different languages, there is no consensus in linguistics concerning the status of causative verb as a categorical unit and criteria for causative verb typology. That makes the present study relevant and scientifically new. The concept of the analytic causative verb is controversial in the linguistic community. The author is of the opinion that there are reasons to consider as analytic causative the causative verbs which contain in their semantics the seme «to cause», but at the same time which get the full realization of their semantics exclusively through the verb-infinitive construction. The verb force possesses the ability to participate in the formation of analytic constructions only in its first meaning «to make someone do something they do not want to do». In the course of this study, the author distinguishes between agentive and non-agentive causative situations in analytical constructions of the active voice with the English verb force. In agential causative situations, the obligatory arguments of the predicate are «the source of causative influence» or the causer and «the object of causative influence» or the causee. The semantic role of the causer is agent, the semantic role of the causee is patient. The co-referential identity of causer and causee is possible in the intreferential actant derivation. In non-agentive causative situations, the obligatory arguments of the predicate are «the source of causative influence» and «object of causative influence» or the causee. The argument «the source of causative influence» can perform the following semantic roles: background causer (uncontrollable and natural events and circumstances, natural forces), instrument. The semantic role of the causee is patient. The author concludes that the formal-informative features of predicate arguments impose restrictions on the causative situation. The taxonomic categories of causative situations generated by the verb force correlate with the formal-informative features of the main arguments of the predicate. The taxonomic category of agential causative situations can only be «action». The taxonomic categories of non-agential causative situations are «incident with a background causer» and «causative incident with a hidden agent».
