Abstract. This article analyzes phraseological units containing the «body part» component in German political media texts. The study defines concepts such as «political media discourse», «political text», and «somatism». The article focuses on identifying the semantics of these phraseological units in political media texts, which is closely linked to their manipulative and pragmatic nature. The authors also describe the mechanisms for the formation and implementation of figurative and symbolic meanings in somatic phraseological units, noting that the somatism within a phraseological unit functions as a semantic center around which the figurative meaning of the entire unit is constructed. Each specific body part conveys a specific meaning and associated figurative representations, which underlie cognitive models and metaphorical transfers. The article demonstrates that somatic phraseological units in the context of political discourse represent semantic diversity, expressing an assessment of the actions of the authorities, the social atmosphere, and the intellectual abilities of politicians. The study also found that the somatic phraseological units «Hand», «Kopf», «Auge», and «Herz» (heart) are particularly productive in the formation of phraseological units in political media language. These lexemes are key components of metaphors, symbolizing control or action (Hand), intelligence, reason, leadership, responsibility (Kopf), processes of observation, control, or attention (Auge), and feelings or emotions (Herz). Furthermore, political articles are dominated by set phrases with a verb-nominal structure. Overall, somatic phraseological units serve in political media discourse not only as means of emotional coloring and social evaluation of political figures and institutions, but also as a technique of verbal influence, manipulation, and the formation of desired attitudes.

Keywords: political media discourse; political text; somatic phraseological unit; metaphor; symbolic meaning; speech technique; figurative representation
