Abstract. The article summarizes the theoretical aspects of the sociological study of ethnic clans in the administrative practices of the republics of the North Caucasus. The content of the concepts of «clan», «clan capitalism», «titular nation», combining objective and subjective assessments, is considered. The socio-cultural specificity of ethnic clans in the formation of political elites in multiethnic regions is revealed, and the content characteristics of ethnocentric political culture are revealed. The article substantiates the thesis that ethnic clans in power structures are active subjects that regulate the processes of distribution of «limited» financial and material benefits.

The author pays attention to internal and external factors of clan formation in national republics and makes a reasonable conclusion that these factors generate ethnocorruption behavior of representatives of the political elite, which uses informal institutions in power management relations as tacit agreements with representatives of higher state structures, law enforcement agencies, election commissions.

The source of empirical data presented in the article were the results of research conducted by the Institute of Public Design. Based on the secondary analysis, an attempt is made to study the institutionalization of ethnic clans and ethnocratic trends in polyethnic regions. The materials obtained in the course of the sociological research reflect the subjective perception of the level of ethno-corruption manifestations by the population on the part of the political elite. The conclusion is made about the most corrupt republics of the North Caucasus, where informal institutions are used at the maximum level in power management relations, which contributes to obtaining shadow income.
