Abstract. The article presents a linguistic analysis of the text of the fairy tale in the Middle Ob dialect of the Khanty language Хой каша юр? «Who is the strongest?» This dialect belongs to the western (northern) dialect range, which also includes the Kazym, Shuryshkary and Obdorsk dialects. Its distribution range is represented by the Oktyabrsky district and partly by the Khanty-Mansiysk district. Today, this dialect is in the process of disappearing, as it is spoken by a small number of representatives. There are works in Khanty linguistics devoted to the grammar of this dialect (Steinitz 1950; Tereshkin 1966) and others. In addition, in the 40s and 60s of the twentieth century. Literature (educational and translated) was intensively published in the twentieth century. The text of the fairy tale «Хой каша юр?» is written in the following versions: the original, written down from paper, transmitted by the informant; unification of graphics; translation of the text in Russian; glossed text with three lines (Finno-Ugric transcription, morphemic analysis, literal translation). Linguistic analysis of the text has shown that it contains phonetic, morphological and lexical features characteristic of the Middle Ob dialect of the Khanty language. No such text has yet been found among the available literature published in the Middle Ob dialect. The Appendix contains a similar plot of a Nanai fairy tale, which may have served as the basis (sample) for creating the original text. However, it should be noted that the question of the origin of the text is open.
