Abstract. The article examines the concept of verbal series from the standpoint of text stylistics and proposes a classification of verbal series as defining elements of the linguistic composition of a literary work. Thus, the subject of the research is verbal series, namely series functioning within a literary text, which makes the literary text the object of the research. The proposed study foregrounds the consideration of language usage, i.e., it becomes fundamentally important not so much to analyze individual language units extracted from a specific context, but rather the interaction of these units within the text as a whole, which helps to determine the specifics of the organization of the literary work in question. The aim of the research was an attempt to identify types of verbal series in a literary text and to systematize them. The result of the work can be considered the proposed classification, which is based on three aspects of researching verbal series in a literary text: determining their significance as an element of linguistic composition, their functional and stylistic orientation, and their meaning-forming role. The article also describes the experience of practical application of the proposed approach during an experimental stylistic analysis of a fragment of a literary text. All this helps to arrive at the following conclusion: stylistic analysis of works of literary art through the study of verbal series can allow for well-founded discussion of the features of the individual style of the author of the text under study. This makes the work relevant, and its results applicable in the practice of studying and teaching the stylistics of literary text.
The research also has theoretical significance, as it continues the development of the doctrine of the verbal series, which is a significant category of text.
