Language policy of Canada as a tool for promoting linguistic dualism in terms of globalization

Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of language policy as tools to promote linguistic dualism in modern Canada. The author outlines the main directions and trends of the language policy of Canada, its dynamics and basic tools in the context of globalization. The study focuses on the current language situation in Canada including the immigrants’ factor. The dynamics and the main tools of the language policy in Canada, as well as the prospects for the development of the language situation in Canada are also considered. The research methodology included the theoretical analysis of documents, the study, analysis and generalization of academic literature, information and analytical materials of periodicals and the Internet sites, their systematization and the description of the data obtained through the study. As a unit of analysis, we considered A text fragment in which language policy patterns were identified or commented on was chosen as a unit for the analysis. The analysis focused on the beginning of the XXI century. In addition, Canadian census data were used.
In the course of the analysis, the author provides insight into the concept of “language policy” and various levels of its implementation. The influence of immigrants on the modern linguistic situation is outlined. The author shows how a change in immigration patterns leads to a change in the linguistic situation in the country in the context of globalization. The conclusion is made about the linguistic diversity in Canada, the establishment of a new bilingualism that is different from the traditional English-French linguistic dualism, which can be associated with the peculiarities of the linguistic situation, characterized by an increase in multilingualism and multiculturalism, and considered one of the important results of the language policy aimed at the preservation of linguistic diversity in the context of globalization.
