The Islamic style of fresco art and its significance for modern design

Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of perception and evaluation of the art of murals created in the field of mural painting and interior design, which is relevant when studying the links between the training of design students and the formation of their worldview. The tradition of Islamic art, revived in recent years in the Middle East, can be considered relevant for the study of frescoes and socio-cultural education of students in Iraqi universities. The purpose of this article was to identify the features of the interiorization of Islamic wall painting traditions in the training of modern decorators and designers. The tasks of the work are: (a) characteristics of the reception of traditional painting models in Arabic art; (b) characteristics of cultural features of the educational process; (c) explication of design skills obtained on the basis of studying frescoes as a type of decorative art. The research method can be called syncretic: the historical and cultural approach to art is combined with elements of axiological value consideration of artifacts and at the same time comparisons of the past and the present are important. The novelty of the work is determined by a new analysis of the training of specialists in the course of studying the tradition of ancient Islamic art in conditions of transit and instability. The theoretical significance of the theme of the development of classical issues in the art of our time is due to the demand for restoration and architectural innovations in the cities of Iraq, which has direct access to the practice of training decorators acting as organizers of the new «post-Saddam» Iraq. This study draws conclusions about the influence of the Islamic tradition and the need to deepen and integrate the traditions of the East and West.
