Abstract. This article examines scientific approaches to identifying and solving the problems of intercultural communication, namely the causes of conflicts in intercultural dialogue. We analyzed the literature on the theory and practice of intercultural relations, where the authors consider various causes of conflicts and methods of their resolution. In this article, we focus on the main reasons leading to interethnic conflicts in the cause of intercultural interaction. The purpose of this study is to analyze the nature of the problems of intercultural conflicts, based on the interdisciplinary approach including the theories of such sciences as linguistics, cultural studies, and conflict studies. The authors attempted to identify the main problem most often studied by well-known researchers, leading to cognitive dissonance in representatives of different cultures during interaction. The novelty of the research is based on the attempt to identify the modern challenges in intercultural communication. The object of the research is the problems of intercultural communication in the modern world. The subject of the research is conflicts arising during intercultural dialogue. The relevance of the problem under study is due to the increased interest in the problems of intercultural communication in connection with the continuous process of globalization which continuously leads to the dialogue of cultures. To date, the causes of intercultural conflicts have not been fully studied and analyzed, due to the lack of statistical data and the lack of clearly formulated methods for resolving intercultural confrontations. In the conclusion, the author presents the results of the study on the aspects describing the causes of intercultural conflicts are presented, the most significant and difficult causes of conflicts that are most often appear in scientific literature, including the problem of ethnocentrism and stereotypes are identified.
