Abstract. The article focuses on embodiment of aesthetic and artistic values in nutrition.

The author clarifies the concept of cultural value and reveals the meaning of «food culture».

The article focuses on how aesthetic and artistic value meanings (along with vital, sacral and moral) are reflected in the food culture.

The first paragraph of the article is focused on aesthetic values in food culture. It is noteworthy that today, even in specialized studies, very little mention had been made of the visual component of gastronomy. The aesthetic potential of food has been studied very few.

In the article, the author proves that “sense of beauty” belongs not only to art, but also applies to everyday life, everyday and festive decoration of the meal. The aesthetics of the beautifully served table inspires and humanizes the meal. It can give a feeling of joy, harmony, grace.

The author distinguishes between the concepts of «aesthetic» and «artistic».

The artistic values of culture are expressed through the creation and perception of works of art; and the food becomes here an expressive artistic image.

The author shows how food acts as a sign, a symbol, an emblem of many human virtues and sins, ideological positions. The artist designs images based on these values, and then the images perceived by the viewer. It is noteworthy that the artist can create completely different artistic images based on the same real objects.
