Abstract. The article considers one of the most popular phenomena of the modern consumer – «cinema». Cinema is seen as an inseparable element of culture. Cinematography realizes all the functions of the media, but not by the usual way, but with the help of a person’s emotions, his empathy and the perception of the person of the declared theme and images. The purpose of this work, using the method of sociological analysis, to consider the place of Russian cinema in the west and the influence of the Western film industry on the Russian consumer. Thus, with the help of statistical data, the idea will be confirmed that Russians prefer to watch only films of foreign cinema in cinemas, and abroad the creativity of our cinematographers is of considerable interest to the jury of international film festivals. And we will answer the question why a significant proportion of Russians were negatively inclined towards domestic films, and by 2017 the attitude of the domestic audience began to change?
