Abstract. The article emphasizes the relevance of studying the process of forming abbreviations in English Internet correspondence, since inventing new technologies and developing the society in the first quarter of the 21st century led to a significant increase in the importance of communication tools, especially the Internet. The aim of the study is to identify the specifics of the word abbreviation formation in Internet correspondence in English, to consider which of the English abbreviations have been transferred to the Russian language and to develop recommendations for their use. The article used the contextual analysis method and the comparative method to obtain reliable results. The author presents the basic rules and principles that underlie the creation of generally accepted abbreviations used in England, the USA and other countries, many of which originate from the Latin language; considers the examples of using abbreviations from Internet correspondence in literature and feature films. The article presents Internet correspondence abbreviations in the English language that have passed into Russian, examines their application in various areas of communication, and also identifies trends in this phenomenon development. Particular attention is paid to considering the Digispeak language, which describes the features of the language used in digital communications, in Internet correspondence, text messages and other forms of electronic connection. It is concluded that abbreviations in Internet correspondence in English simplify and speed up the process of communication between people, have become an important part of modern culture. The results of the study will be useful for everyone who is interested in effective and fast communication on the Internet, including teachers, students and professionals in various fields of activity.
